CHILD CARE FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS: Upon receiving additional federal child care funding through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, DSS temporarily opened the SC Voucher program to provide child care assistance to workers deemed essential during the COVID-19 response, without regard to the regular income eligibility requirements. The purpose of this temporary program is to help essential workers pay for child care while they report to work during the COVID-19 emergency.  In other words, those engaged in providing essential services (health care workers, first responders, commercial transport, critical state government operations, child care providers); individuals involved in making sure the public has access to critical services (food, water, gas, utilities, sanitation, medical, child care); and critical infrastructure operations (communications, national guard mobilization, transportation).

Due to the overwhelming response and limited CARES Act funding, DSS closed the application period at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2020
